We Invite Teens to join us the 1st saturday of every month (or on any adventure)
Beginning in 2026, teens always hike free with WE HIKE. No park permits are required for teen participants, removing financial barriers and expanding access to El Paso’s public lands.
WE HIKE is a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on hiking safety, preparedness, wellness education, and equitable outdoor access. Our teen hikes are intentionally designed to support confidence, awareness, and personal growth, both on and off the trail.
Guided by trained WE HIKE expert volunteers, teens learn essential outdoor skills such as trail etiquette, pacing, hydration, situational awareness, preparedness, and environmental responsibility. No prior hiking experience is required.
Teens ages 12–19 are welcome. WE HIKE teen hikes are always free, no park permits, ever, with WE HIKE. Friends and family may have park entry fees, but WE HIKE never charges to participate.
Join a hike. Join a class. Join a event. Learn new skills. Volunteer with purpose. Build confidence outdoors.
This is WE HIKE, for TEENS.
Teen Hiking and Education Program Summer 2026
More Than Just a Hike
At WE HIKE, our teen programs are about more than distance, they’re about building confidence, awareness, and real-world skills. We believe the trail is one of the best classrooms for developing independence and resilience.
Launched in 2026 and building on youth programming from 2025, the WE HIKE Teen Program offers free, guided hiking experiences for youth ages 13–17 in El Paso, Texas. Programs are held through scheduled hikes, seasonal series, and summer programming, with a focus on safety, preparedness, and outdoor education.
Each session is led by trained WE HIKE volunteers and includes hands-on learning in real trail environments.
Every participant has the opportunity to build:
Trail Awareness & Navigation
Learning to read the trail, recognize surroundings, and move with purpose. First Aid is included.
Personal Responsibility
Taking ownership of gear, hydration, and pacing throughout the hike.
Environmental Stewardship
Respecting the outdoors by practicing Leave No Trace principles.
Confidence & Communication
Making decisions, speaking up, and supporting one another as part of a team.

In addition to hiking, teens may participate as WE HIKE youth volunteers. These opportunities mirror our adult volunteer program and are adapted for youth involvement with appropriate supervision and parent or guardian consent.
Teen volunteers may assist with hike support, trail stewardship, community outreach events, youth activities, and nonprofit operations. Volunteering allows teens to contribute meaningfully, gain real-world experience, and develop leadership, accountability, and communication skills.
Volunteer hours may be used toward school, service-learning, or college requirements.
Today’s teens face real challenges, stress, isolation, constant screen time, and limited opportunities for healthy connection. WE HIKE provides a safe, supportive space where teens can unplug, move their bodies, and build meaningful connections with peers and mentors through shared outdoor experiences.
Our hikes foster confidence, responsibility, communication, teamwork, and leadership, without pressure or competition. Teens are encouraged to show up as they are and grow at their own pace while learnign about the great outdoors.
All teen programs are guided by trained WE HIKE volunteers with safety, preparedness, as top priorities. Parent or guardian consent is required for teen participation and volunteering. We have a student leader ratio 1:10 so registration is required to ensure that we have the experts to lead the eway. Parents are always welcome to attend and join in on the adventure.
